Among the highlights of the year, Unibanco's net income reached R$1.28 billion. Total assets amounted to R$79.3 billion and stockholders' equity rose to R$8.1 billion.

2004 was also the year when Unibanco acquired HiperCard. Pedro Malan, former Minister of Finance, was elected Chairman of the Board. Units, Unibanco's most liquid assets, were included in the IBrX-50 Index. After a secondary offering, in the beginning of 2005, they also became part of the Ibovespa Index.
