| Centro de Estudos Instituto Unibanco
Besides sponsoring programs that focus youngsters education and environmental
preservation, Instituto Unibanco promotes its own programs and lends its brand
to like-minded third-party initiatives.
The Centro de Estudos Instituto Unibanco, inaugurated in 2003 at Jardim Educandário,
São Paulo, close to the bank's administrative headquarters, has a library,
a comic book library, reading spaces, a computer lab and activity rooms. It
serves 1,000 low-income people aged 8-17, including students from the 10 public
schools of the region.
This idea to create this space came up when Unibanco was expanding its library
and decided to make its 40,000 books available to the public and the 8,000 students
of adjacent communities.
In addition to its role in social intervention, the center promotes regular
programs such as classes, lectures, seminars, film shows and events open to
parents and teachers. The educational activities - computer lab, paper recycling,
book binding and repair and reading circles - serve not only to spread knowledge,
they also promote citizenship and serve as a vehicle of change for community's
dynamics. |
