| The Junior Achievement Foundation, a non-profit organization founded in the
United States in 1919 and now present in 116 countries, is the oldest of its
kind in complementary education. It teaches young people basics on how corporations
work, introducing them the world of free enterprise.
In Brazil, Instituto Unibanco has served as patron for the Junior Achievement
Foundation for two decades. The sponsorship reached a new level in 2001, with
a deeper role of Instituto Unibanco in the projects developed by the Foundation
in public schools, helping increase the number of participating students.
The initiative aims to nurture the entrepreneurial spirit in youngsters aged
between 10 to 19 years old, helping strengthen ethical values and offering a
realistic view of business and economy.
Today the partnership extends to eight states and is active in the cities of
São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Porto Alegre, Curitiba, Recife,
Salvador and Fortaleza, reaching more than 4,000 students in 22 public schools.
It is made possible by the active participation of 366 Unibanco volunteers.
In addition to mobilizing its volunteers, currently in charge of all the classes
taught by the program, Instituto Unibanco donates all classroom materials, while
the Foundation is in charge of coordinating and overseeing the activities. At
the end of each course students are tested to assess the program's success and
participate in lively graduating parties. |
